The Auckland Baseball Association, in cooperation with Baseball New Zealand, local youth and senior baseball organizations, is recruiting baseball umpires for the 2010/2011 season.
Date: Saturday 02/10/2010
Time: 09:00 – 16:00
Venue: Diamond Blacks Baseball Club (Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga)
Without game officials, it is the athletes and the sport program that suffers. It is critical for today, and the future, that new umpires are properly trained, each year, for all levels of competition. The role of a sport official is to ensure fair play. “If it isn’t fair, it isn’t fun.”
Without parents, players, player-alumni or friends of baseball coming forward to contribute to the sport program as an umpire, there will be games cancelled or played with insufficient or unqualified umpires.
Whether it’s umpiring youth baseball, senior baseball in your local community or calling balls and strikes at national championships, BNZ has an umpire development program that ‘covers all the bases!’

Under-14 National Baseball Development Squad/Team Queensland State Tournament Trip |
|
|
|
|
Australia’s Queensland State Tournament will commence on Saturday 18 September and conclude on Monday 20 September and will be played in Lismore. New Zealand will send its twenty (20) best Under-14 baseball players to compete in this prestigious Australian metal bat tournament, and it is the first time Queensland has allowed an 'outside' or foreign team to play in their state championship.
The selected team will stay in Lismore for the tournament and a minimum of five (5) games, and then will travel to a second location on the Gold Coast (1.5 hours away) and will play a series of games (minimum of five {5} as well) against two of the top Under-14 teams in Australia.
Twelve (12) of the players were originally chosen by former coaches, and BNZ has decided to retain this group and reward them for the selection by continuing to keep this group together.
Additionally, another six (6) alternates were selected to work out with the team. Baseball New Zealand has made the decision to add to this list of alternates over the next several weeks (as was originally intended) and then allow the coaches to select their final 20 players out of the list of up to 30 alternates to allow for maximum exposure and to truly gather together the top national team possible over the next month.
This week, trials will run simultaneously with team training sessions on Sunday, 1 August; Tuesday, 3 August; 5 August; 7 August; 8 August.
Exact training details are as follows for the next week(additional training dates for the next seven (7) weeks will follow shortly):
- Sunday 1 August One Tree Hill College Indoor Gymnasium #2 - carpark entrance via approx 31, Rockfield Road (off Great South Road), Penrose, Auckland. 14:30 - 18:00 hrs TRIALS/TRAINING
- Tuesday 3 August Panmure Y- Indoor Stadium - situated across the road on Lagoon Drive, Panmure, Auckland (opposite to where Lagoon & Leisure Pools are located). 16:00 - 18:00 hrs TRIALS/TRAINING
- Thursday 5 August Panmure Y- Indoor Stadium - situated across the road on Lagoon Drive, Panmure, Auckland (opposite to where Lagoon & Leisure Pools are located). 16:00 - 17:30 hrs TRIALS/TRAINING
- Saturday 7 August Lloyd Elsmore Field #1 - carpark entrance off Cascades Road, Pakuranga, Auckland. 13:00 - 16:30 hrs TRIALS/TRAINING
- Sunday 8 August Lloyd Elsmore Field #1 - carpark entrance off Cascades Road, Pakuranga, Auckland. 13:00 - 16:30 hrs TRIALS/TRAINING
Coaches will require that all interested players will need to make at least one of these sessions before the coaches put the final list together of the maximum 30-player national development squad/team. The final travel team of 20 will be chosen between 29 August-6 September.
More information about this team, fundraising efforts and additional details will follow in the coming week.
Thank you for your support!

During the off-season, many of us are working on fundraising plans to help us achieve the goals of the club for the season coming up and beyond.
We rely on fundraising activities to bring in money to pay for:
- equipment - bats, helmets, balls, etc
- uniforms - jerseys, hats and t-ball pants
- Fields maintenance equiment - bases, rakes, watering etc
- Coaching - development officer, coaching clinics and resources
- Major projects - such as the dugouts, batting cage, storage units etc.
- Umpires - development, training and travel to local and overseas events
- Travel - to assist sending players overseas
As you can see from above, there are many different programmes and initiatives that we need to raise money for, so we need to prioritise and focus on a few areas at a time.
Initial fundraising activity will focus on funding for our Development Officer, Dugouts and getting our No2 field up to standard. We also have plans around building a permanent batting cage and getting our gear and jersey stock ready for the start of the season.
We have a fundraising committee headed up by Adelita Sotutu - so if you are keen to help or have ideas for raising money please contact Adelita - click here to send her an email. |

Like many sports organisations, our club relies on funding for projects, equipment, uniforms and coaching. We are very fortunate to have some great sponsors including:
|

|
Briggs and Stratton
In 2009 Briggs and Stratton donated a lawn tractor to the club, to help us keep the fields in top condition. This is a great little tractor - look out for it down at Lloyd Elsmore.
Thanks for your support Briggs and Stratton!

|
Lion Foundation
The Lion Foundation provided funding in 2009 toward the cost of player Jerseys for U13 and Senior Divional teams. These new jerseys look great and are the first DiamondBlacks jerseys in Black with white and red highlights.
Thanks for your support Lion Foundation!

|
North and South Trust
North and South Trust provided funding in 2009 toward the cost of composite wood bats for our senior teams.
Thanks for your support North and South Trust!

|

|
NZ Community Trust
The NZ Community Trust provided funding in 2008 towards Baseball Bats - this enabled us to purchase new Easton Bats for all junior grades.
Thanks for your support NZ Community Trust!

Pub Charity
Pub Charity have provided funding in 2008 and 2009 toward the cost of our baseball hats, Baseballs and t-ball uniform pants. Baseballs are a big cost for us so this is a great help - also the hats are an important part of the DiamondBlacks uniform and look great with the Pub Charity logo on the side.
Thanks for your support Pub Charity!
